Top Ten Tuesday – Book Boyfriends

Who’s on your list of book boyfriends?

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the folks at The Broke and The Bookish because they like lists!

Today’s post from The Broke and the Bookish was Top Twn Book Boyfriends. The last time I had made a list of book boyfriends was back in 2015. Here’s the original list, in red. And here’s what I think about my choice now!

Top Ten Book Boyfriends

In no particular order:

Colonel BrandonSense and Sensibility  I always thought Marianne was crazy for not scooping him up at the start! I’m still on board for Colonel Brandon. In fact, I will add another Alan Ruckman character to the list. Even though he wasn’t a boyfriend, Severus Snape’s love for Lily Potter was never-ending and truly heart-breaking.

Jamie FraserOutlander, Diana Gabaldon  He can do anything.  He would do anything for you! I still agree with this one as well, but need to add someone to the list of ‘Will do anything for my woman list’ – Roarke, from the J.D. Robb In Death series. Yes, he’s a husband now, but the man will do anything for Eve Dallas, including buying her a pair of $6000 boots!!

Stu RedmanThe Stand, Stephen King  I have had a crush on Gary Sinise ever since he played Stu in the mini-series way back when!  There’s talk to do a movie of the book and I can’t wait to find out who plays Stu! I have no idea whether they’re still doing a movie, but I do still love Stu.

Jake BriganceA Time to Kill, John Grisham  Yes, I was crushing on the character even before I watched the movie!! Eh – not sure I’d include him now.

Rupert Campbell-BlackRivals, Jilly Cooper  Rupert began as quite the shit in Cooper’s Riders, but it’s fun watching how he’s been redeemed by the love of a woman I still love the character of Rupert, but he is really a crappy boyfriend/husband! He cheated on Taggie in Mount – off the list!

Dexter – Something Borrowed, Emily Giffen  Even though he cheated on Darcy, because Darcy really needed to be cheated on! (I know that’s not nice!) Good boyfriend for Rachel, but a bit too boring to make in on the present day list. To replace him, I’d suggest Henry, from Emma Chase’s Royally Matched. Or Leo, from Alice Clayton’s Nuts. Both have a little more excitement to them.

Laurie –  Little Woman  Still so sad Jo never married him! Okay, Laurie can stay

PeetaHunger Games  Team Peeta all the way! Obviously, I was reading Hunger Games at the time I wrote this!

ChubsDarkest Minds, Alexandra Bracken  Liam is almost too perfect, so I go for Chubs Uh, I can’t remember Chubs so I should maybe take him off the list!

Neville LongbottomHarry Potter  It was almost Ron but Neville needs some love.  Plus, he grew up so nicely. I agree, but I’m going to add Remus Lupin to the list. Him and Tonks – sigh!

I’m adding Augustus Waters, from The Fault of Our Stars.

Also, Rhysand, from The Court of Thorns and Roses series.

What about you?  Who are your favourite book boyfriends?

Is that 10? How about you? Who’s on your list?

Top Ten Tuesday – All About Me!

Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Things About ME!

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in Top Ten Tuesday. It’s a cool meme but since I’ve been trying shift my blog’s focus from books to me-as-a-writer-of-books, I stopped posting my lists. But since this week theme is all about me, I thought it might be fun to do. Everyone likes to talk about themselves, don’t they? 😉

10 Fun Facts about Me

  1. I’m an author of four chick lit novels, 1 middle grade book and soon-to-be 19 adult romance novels. I write under a pen name that I won’t mention here since my kids are at an age where they or their friends might discover it and I’m not ready to discuss details of those books with them!
  2. The three writers which I would love to meet are Joss Whedon, Stephen King and Hugh Howey. Also, JJ Abrams, even though he’s more of a director/producer these days, and Simon Pegg, depending on how much I enjoy the new Star Trek
  3. I am a huge Star Wars fan.
  4. I coach baseball/softball
  5. meI have a tattoo. My sister, who went with me to get thr tattoo, was very upset because it didn’t really hurt when I got it done. I’m thinking about getting another one but not sure what to get
  6. I grew up on a farm. I can ride horses, stack hay bales and if I’m driving by another farm, I can pretty much tell what kind of animals by the smell of the manure.
  7. Things I could spend hours discussing – Star Wars, Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lost. Can we say geek? 🙂
  8. I  created my own imprint to publish my books – Three Birds Press
  9. Dragon_printSo technically I am also a publisher, as well as an author. I published my husbands’ book – Barrier Free Real Estate – Achieving Freedom at Home. Someday, I’d like to add Editor to the list of things I do
  10. I’m writing another kids’ book for my children. But now my daughter is a teen, she wants something YA. I told her I’d see what I can do!

Top Ten Tuesday – Ten Bookish Things I Resolve to do in  2016

Okay, so I only came up with 5, but these are bookish things I resolve to do in 2016 that relate to non-bookish things so it’s like it’s 10!

This means I have to relax more. Like the rest of the world, I am pretty busy. I don’t curl up with a book during the day – sometimes on weekends, but very rarely to I have time for that. I read before bed, when I’m eating alone and when hubby is watching a TV show that I don’t like. I need to make more time to read.

Use to the Library More Often

I usually buy my books and as you can imagine, being booklovers yourselves – it gets expensive. It’s not saying I’ll never buy a book again (because I will!) but it’s something to work on

Write More Reviews

I love it when people leave reviews of my books, so I should return the favour more. It’s a great way to connect with people, which is a big thing for me to work on in 2016

Stop Feeling Obligated – to Finish a Book

2016 is the Year of No for me.

New Mantra – Not my circus, not my monkeys

What about you? What are your bookish or non-bookish things you resolve to do for 2016?

Top Ten Tuesday – What if the Book Genie Could Grant me a Wish?

book genieWhat would you ask for if you had a Book Genie? A brand new library full of best-sellers? A character to come to life? While I think my wish should be to organize my book shelves (with a never ending Indigo card to buy new books!) I think I would wish to meet some authors. Pick their brains, worship at their feet or just hang out because I think they might be fun friends.

Here’s my Top Ten List of Authors I’d like to meet if my Book Genie Could Grant Me One Wish. (title is a bit wordy – oops!)

  • Stephen King
  • Jane Austen
  • J.K Rowling
  • George R.R. Martin
  • Nora Roberts (to see if she’s cloned – I mean, who can write all those books!)
  • Jackie Collins (RIP, but wouldn’t she be a hoot?!)
  • Hugh Howey (talk about his success and get a ride on his new boat! Plus, I have a teensy little crush on him so why not! :))
  • MaryJanice Davidson, Colleen Hoover and Cora Carmack (talk about success but also because they seem like fun to hang around!)

What about you? What would you wish for? Any authors you’d love to meet?

Top Ten Tuesday – What’s on my Fall TBR List?

top 10Top Ten Tuesday  – Top Ten Books on my Fall TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is brought to you by the lovely ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. Stop by and join in the fun!

Once again, my choices are pretty varied. I think I have a little bit of everything here.  These are the books I don’t have yet, but will be adding to my pile.

And always looking for more, so tell me what’s on your list!

Top Ten Tuesday – If I were teaching Classic Books…

top 10

Top Ten Tuesday is brought to you by the Broke and the Bookish. Today’s list is:

If I were teaching a class in X, these books would be on my syllabus.

Fitting, since it’s almost back to school time (yay!) First off, I decided to create my own class, then do my list. My class would be:

Classic Books that Aren’t on Any Classic Book Lists

Basically, these are books I consider classics for one reason or another. And if I were teaching a classic books class (and how cool would that be!) you better believe I would come up with my own list!! Especially since there are so many books on these so-called Classic Books list that I haven’t read yet!

I’ve broken my list into genres as well.

Classic YA Romance: The Fault in our Stars

Classic Kid-Lit – Harry Potter The whole series. Well, maybe not the fifth one. I think Order of the Phoenix could have used more editing

Classic YA Dystopia – Hunger Games.  Not the series, only the first book. I enjoyed the second and third too, but not sure they belong in the classic category

Classic sci-fi: Wool – Hugh Howey & V by A.C Crispin

If you read sci-fi, you should definitely read these two!

Classic Dystopia/Horror – The Stand – Stephen King

Any writer needs to read something by Stephen King and I would begin with his wonderful, On Writing. But if you’re writing anything end-of-the-world, you must read The Stand. It’s frightening in that it’s completely possible the human race might be responsible for their own demise, but not scary like check-under-your-bed scary (read It, if that’s what you’re looking for, a classic in it’s own right)

Classic Romance writer going out of the box with great success – The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

I would have to do some more research, but the Nightingale doesn’t seem to be the norm for a Kristin Hannah read. I would call it historical fiction and it’s done so well. I would have to include this because it’s my favourite book I’ve read this year!

Book that should have been a classic because of the hype but disappointed – Red Queen – by Victoria Aveyard

Book that will be a classic but doesn’t deserve to be – Fifty Shades of Gray

I would end with my favourite classic, because if I’m the professor, I can do that, right?! – Pride and Prejudice. I would end with this one and then I would show the movie; the BBC mini-series if we had time!

What do you think? Any suggestions for my syllabus for my class?

Top Ten Tuesday – Last Ten Recently required books

top 10

The Broke and the Bookish provides a prompt to make a weekly list about everything bookish. Today’s list is –

Last ten recently required books:

Here goes mine

girl on the trainThe Girl on the Train

I tried, I really tried to get into this book this weekend, but I couldn’t do it. In my defense it was a beautiful day which I spent reading on a dock, but the characters were – in my opinion – so unlikable that it was bringing me down! I was feeling an obligation to read it, and so after fifty or so pages, I put it away. It’s a friend’s copy, so hopefully I don’t have to return it right away so I can try again.

The Merciful Scar – Rebecca St. James & Nancy Ruemerciful scar

I love it when people feel the need to lend me books because they are sure I’ll like them! This is a friend’s library book that she renewed so I can read it

giverThe Giver – Lois Lowry

A friend was amazed I had never read this and brought me her copy the next day

Faking It – Cora Carmackfaking itredhead

The Unidentified Readhead – Alice Clayton

Bought these because I needed something lighthearted and fun for the summer

runningRunning – John Stanton

If I’m finally going to do this marathon, I need some help

In the Unlikely Even – Judy BlumeIMG_3186

A Perfect Heritage – Penny Vincenzi

These are the books which destroyed my #TBR20 attempt!

Edge-of-Eternity-by-Ken-FollettEdge of Eternity – Ken Follett

I carried this 1000+page hard cover tome back on the train with me. Was it worth it? Nope

Enchanted Forest – Johanna Basfordenchanted forest

I love to colour! I am so into colouring these days. It relaxes me after a long day and I’ve been looking for the Basford books since she started this trend. So much better than stealing my daughter’s princess colouring books!! Enjoying the pretty pictures!
