Today I’m excited to tell you I’ve finally discovered JoJo Moyes.

jojoI’ve heard the love for her books, seen them fly off the shelves when I was working at the bookstores, but never picked up a copy for myself.  I was at the library a week or so ago and happened to take out The Girl You Left Behind on a whim and so glad I did.

In 1916, French artist Edouard Lefevre leaves his wife Sophie to fight at the Front. When her town falls into German hands, his portrait of Sophie stirs the heart of the local Kommandant and causes her to risk everything – her family, reputation and life – in the hope of seeing her true love one last time.

Nearly a century later and Sophie’s portrait is given to Liv by her young husband shortly before his sudden death. Its beauty speaks of their short life together, but when the painting’s dark and passion-torn history is revealed, Liv discovers that the first spark of love she has felt since she lost him is threatened…

In The Girl You Left Behind two young women, separated by a century, are united in their determination to fight for the thing they love most – whatever the cost.

I don’t know why it took me so long to discover this author but I’m so glad I finally did.  Looking forward to reading more of her books soon!

Have you read her?  What’s your favourite JoJo Moyes book?

  1. I’ve never actually heard of this author or this book. I’ll have to look into it! The idea sounds really fascinating. I need to read more historical fiction about this time period. I’m usually reading things based in Tudor England. 😛

  2. Oh man, I LOVE that book! Jojo Moyes is so awesome. You should also read Me Before You. I believe she is coming out with a sequel to that one as well. But one of my favorites by her is The Last Letter From Your Lover. That was such an amazing book!

  3. Hi there!

I’m stopping by during the A to Z Challenge. I enjoyed stopping by and hope you get the chance to check out my blog sometime during this month. I’m a children’s book author and I’m reviewing different books. Good luck with the challenge!

    Take care,

    Donna L Martin
